Second blog (pertaining towards disability powerpoint's)

I first want to say overall everyone did amazing for the presentations. The presentations that consisted of the chapters that were given to set groups, and the disabilities they spread awareness too. Starting off with group one they went over chapter’s four, eleven, twelve, thirteen, and fourteen. To add to that, after the chapters they went over Cerebral Palsy and Scoliosis for the disability awareness portion. When it came to the chapters I learned about the relationships in language, when it comes to verbal messages. They discussed about topic selection tips and how to evaluate sources. My group went over how to organize your speech and how to improve your communication skills. That being ways to try and maintain your audience’s attention and how to make your speech simple enough so that everyone can understand. We also showed how to make the audience feel the speech is relevant towards them. For the disabilities portion my group went over what Cerebral Palsy and Scoliosis is. We spoke about how it affects someone. We informed the class about the treatments that existed for both disabilities and showed great examples. We added videos and interviews for a better understanding. Now moving onto group two, they focused their presentation on the disabilities hidden within. To add to that, they also talked about chapters fifteen, sixteen, and seventeen. This group did a great job explaining invisible disabilities with examples and pictures. For instance, I didn’t know that much about diabetes and how it affects people till they really went over it in depth. I personally liked the TED Talk concerning a young woman named Sarah, in which she explains how she lives her life with an invisible disability. Besides that, throughout the presentation group two had my attention the whole time using good presentation skills. I also learned about the drug treatments that were available to help people in those conditions. Again, the presentation was very intriguing and was simple enough for everyone to understand and not heavy in wording that you’d loose attention. I found the one slide with the Invisible, Cognitive, and phycological disabilities to be quite informative. They went over the overalls for each hidden disability and gave fun facts and examples. Finally, for group three I learned the types of vision loss. Which consist of Glaucoma (The optic nerve is damaged), Cataract (clouding of the lens of the eye), Muscular degeneration (eye disorder related to aging), Diabetic retinopathy (Vision loss due to diabetes). The group explained what it’s like living with vision loss and how visual impairment can affect people in their daily lives. After those facts they went over the treatment that would help you cope with the disability. They also showed a TED talk that was very intriguing and inspirational. Group three then moved on to the loss of hearing and went over how it happens, the types of hearing loss, the ways of communication. I personally liked the video that showed how people with hearing loss are perpetrated, it really opens your eyes. To also add to that, group three talked about head injuries and the programs that help people with brain injuries.
