Second Presentation Blog by Raul Pena
All three presentations were really good with great
qualities, you can appreciate that every team did vast research and put a lot
of effort into these presentations. Every single one of them brought some new
knowledge to me about the disabilities that we were assigned.
Our group “Group One” were assigned Cerebral Palsy and
Scoliosis, two very common types of disabilities Cerebral Palsy affects over 17
million people around the world. There are many types of Cerebral Palsy and it
can be from mild to severe paralysis. Although there is no cure for Cerebral
Palsy it can be treated to improve life for the people whit this condition.
Every case is different and therefore it requires personalized treatment for
each case. The TED Talk of Maysoon Zayid present by Manny was instructive and
hilarious, she explains the way she perceives her condition whit funny tales of
her life. The title of the presentation said all, “I got 99 problems … palsy is
just one”. We also talked about scoliosis. Scoliosis affects around 3% of the
United States population, Idiopathic scoliosis is the most common one been
eight times more common in females and treatment varies from bracing to surgery
to stop the curve from progressing or to diminish the spinal deformity. Our
team also decided to talk about the chapter that was assigned to us. We
considered being vital in speech development, especially chapters 11, 12, and
13. Selecting the topic, developing the body, and using presentation aids will
help a great amount to develop future speech, this is the way we wanted to
share this part whit our classmates. Overall, I think our group did a great job
and I hoped people enjoyed our presentation the same way we enjoy put in it
together.
Group two did their presentation about “Disabilities Hidden
Within”. They made it very cleared that not all disabilities are visible, some
disabilities are not noticeable but internal affecting a person’s life
physically, mentally, or neurological just like Diabetes, Alzheimer's,
Epilepsy, and many more. Natalia and Hermes did a great job explaining
Diabetes, this was of great help especially for me because I have two family
members with diabetes. I liked how they also presented the Work Cited, that was
unique. They also talked about intellectual disabilities, causes, and differences
between the levels of it from mild to profound. The “Look Beyond My Disability,
See The True Me” video clip was really touching. The theme of their PowerPoint
was very appropriated it was very professional had helped us keep the focus on
their presentation.
Group three presentation was about “Seeing, Hearing, &
Head Injury”. This presentation was full of videos which I considered was
necessary to explain some of these disabilities. The on that hit me the must be
Vision Loss especially after seeing Luis Perez TED talk and learning how he
dedicates time to photography, not for other, he does that form him to remember
once he loses his vision complete, but he also talks how newer technologies are
opening the door to other peoples with no only visual disabilities but also
other types. The videos of the hearing disabilities were also instructively
seen in the world from their point of view and how people interact whit them
was interesting. I liked the group three presentation; I was able to appreciate
the dedication and effort they put on it.
Great job group three
I agree with you about appreciating the hard work of all of the groups. Very good reflection!
