Second Blog for Presentation 2 by Jennifer Concepcion
In group 1 we were assigned to present chapters four, eleven, twelve, thirteen, and fourteen. In chapter four we spoke about verbal messages, the relationships they possess, and their meanings. During these chapters we spoke about topic selections and their developments. How we would write and prepare a speech and how we reach the goal we want to obtain while writing our speech. We learned how to organize our speeches and what we should have in our speech, we also spoke about presentational aids such as computers and whiteboards, the benefits we achieve by using presentational aids and how to present our speech in a way that everyone in the audience could understand. In addition to the chapters we had the chance to choose two disabilities for which we wanted to do research on to present information about the disabilities. The two we chose were cerebral palsy and scoliosis. I was able to understand how many people that have cerebral palsy can also have a type of scoliosis. The videos on both disabilities were very informative and attention grabbing ways to learn more about the types, their symptoms, and whether there is a treatment available.
Group 2 were presenting chapters six, fifteen, sixteen, and seventeen. During these chapters we learned about the types of disabilities that exist and what they consist of. These disabilities were invisible disabilities, psychological disabilities, and cognitive learning disabilities. They also spoke about types of mental health conditions, their types, and different stages they may consist of.
Group 3 presented about the types of vision loss, visual impairments, and the people that may have it whether it’s hereditary or was obtained at an older age. This group also spoke about hearing disabilities and how people who have a hearing disability communicate. The video showed about sign language to me was very helpful and informative on how we use our hands to use sign language to communicate with someone who might have hearing disabilities. Head and brain injuries were also spoken about during these presentations and what may cause someone to suffer an injury to their scalp.
All the attached videos about the disabilities gave me a better understanding of what someone with any disability is able to do as much as everyone else or even more because they don’t let their disabilities define who they are. Whether we have a disability or not we have to embrace anyone who has a disability and understand that they are just as capable of doing anything we can do. I have had the awesome opportunity of experiencing this with many friends and family members who have showed me that they can do exactly what everyone else does the same way if not better. Having a disability means you are much stronger than someone who doesn’t because you are able to overcome many challenges without letting them get you down. I am amazed by the stories I’ve heard of many people sharing their personal experiences with their own disability and how they’ve overcome many obstacles no matter how hard. Every group did an awesome job presenting this assignment and teaching us about the many disabilities that exist.
I agree with you how important it has been for us to learn about the many different disabilities! Very good reflection!
