Presentation Blog 2

My experience during the presentations went very well, I learned more than I could if I read the chapters only. The presentations were very detailed in their explanation of each the chapters and their disabilities that were assigned to each group. Group one was assigned chapter four, eleven, twelve, and fourteen. The disabilities they covered were Cerebral Palsy and Scoliosis. While covering the chapters I learned and understood more about language and communication skills that help improve your speech patterns to sound more professional. Chapter four was Verbal Messages which talked about language and its meaning which included the definition of language and where the term derives from. Chapter four also talks about how language changes everyday but the way we express our emotions is limited by the accuracy of our language and how vast it is. Chapter eleven was Topic Selection and Development which introduced the rhetorical situation that explained how to plan for a speech and all its attributes. Continuing, how to write a speech goal statement was also explained which meant what the reason for the speech was or the goal it tried to spread across. Chapter twelve was organizing your speech in order to express your main points and how to manage your time in a speech. Chapter thirteen was Presentational AIDS which can be anything from a video to a picture to a power point. Chapter fourteen was Language and Oral Style which helped explain how to speak correctly, accurately, and clearly by giving examples and comparisons. Their disability presentation slides were very good and accurate which gave off the feeling that they completely understood it, they left no mistakes and explained all the main points easily. Group two was given chapters fifteen sixteen and seventeen, their disability assigned was invisible disabilities. They explained how invisible disabilities are those that if you put someone with an invisible disability in a group of people who didn't have one, they wouldn't look any different. They understood their point and their main goal clearly and were able to explain their points clearly. They explained mental health conditions and their stages and how severe someone can get to which could happen to anyone. I enjoyed how detailed and quick they presented and their little videos showing them was helpful to keeping focus on the presentation. Group three covered the disabilities which involved vision loss such as Glaucoma, Cataract, Muscular degeneration, and Diabetic retinopathy. They explained how it is to live with these disabilities and how someone who them would see differently whether it be more foggy or with less peripheral vision. They added multiple videos on how the people who had disabilities as such felt when living their day to day life including how others see or treat them, internal pain like headaches or difficulty being stable. A good video they added was the Ted Talk by Luis Perez which he explained how he got the disability and how it affects him and what its like to see with his disability (Retinitis Pigmentosa) and his experience living with this vision impairment. It really showed and helped understand how people feel when having these disabilities such as what they experience and how their family feels about them. Overall the presentations were organized and very detailed to help everyone understand all that they needed to.
